some pre 11/9/2001 imagery:

there are some references (sort of) to the wtc attacks in movies,

like ghostbusters from 1984. the scene at the mayor’s office:

the epicentre on the map is known, these days, as “ground zero” or where the twin towers used to be.

here is that scene from the movie.

here are some images from escape from new york (1981)

considerably more vague than that is something i noticed during an in flight movie in early 2002.

trading places from 1983 has this scene at the wtc.

i just thought that it was interesting because the characters’ only dialogue is about carnage, destruction, and the superbowl, etc.
they’re using a metaphor of capitalism = brutal violence (“kill or be killed”).

the title is of course a double entendre meaning, not only the exchanging of roles by the protagonists, but also those places where trade happens, in this case, the world trade centre.

the original movie poster is a picture of manhattan’s financial district, the air full of paper which is spilling out of a building’s windows.

for the new version of the poster, the flag was made bigger, and we can now be sure that the bits of paper are supposed to be giant dollar notes.

but yeah, anyway, check the numbers on the side of the cab:

considerably less vague a reference comes from the lone gunmen pilot episode which aired in early 2001.

the coincidental scenes can be seen here.

the whole episode can be found out there in net-land.

i've never seen The Medusa Touch (1978), so no comment on that.

non-fiction has references too.
like this,

from the memory hole,

Air Force Manual 10-100: Airman’s Manual, Aug 1999 version:

and "Managing WMD Incidents", from june 2000:

the pentagon also.
from october 2000, Contingency planning Pentagon MASCAL exercise.
